Milk is a great opportunity to work with key strategic partners and big brands to transform the category!

We have a fantastic up to 12 months FTC opportunity to join the Sainsbury's Trading team as a Buyer for Milk within the Dairy department, in our Fresh Foods division. Milk is an exciting retail space where you will be able to thrive working with our strategic supply partners across own-brand and brand to develop and deliver a new customer and category offer that meaningful differentiate from the competitors and better supports our ambition to Win in Milk.

Working with our supplier partners, the Milk Buyer role requires you to own, deliver and optimise the selling strategy, sustainably growing market share and cash profit through a competitive and distinctive customer offer, aligned to our Food First strategy.

Reporting into the Senior Buyer for Milk, the role has responsibility for commercial performance of the Milk range across several key areas, as well as responsibility for setting the category up for ongoing success. Critical for delivery will be working with the cross functional team and supplier partners brand and own-brand to optimise our customer offer

As a Buyer you’ll:

• Know and understand the relevant retail market and the category performance.
• Develop and execute a customer centric price and promotional plan in line with corporate strategy
• Make decisions for both the Buying Strategy (range and supplier strategy) and Selling Strategy (price and promotions)
• Scope, manage and lead relevant cross functional projects within the buying area through to landing.
• Work effectively with the range analysts to build a product range architecture that delivers a market-leading commercial advantage.
• Work effectively with Supply Chain, Agriculture and retail teams to deliver strong availability for customers.
• Work effectively with the Sainsbury’s brand team to deliver best in class innovation and commercially favourable product development.
• Influence key stakeholders across the business to gain engagement and commitment to buying area plans.
• Deliver to business targets on sales, profit, value and range
• Be supported in your development by on and off the job training, and encouraged to be an active leader across Dairy

Our Dairy Buying Team would love to see:

• Passion for buying (preferably Fresh or Grocery) - non food commercial buying experience will also be considered
• Strong commercial acumen
• Ability to analyse problems and make effective decisions
• Clear and effective communication to explain complex information clearly (written and verbal)
• Ability to adapt and flex your communication style to engage and inspire confidence
• Brilliant prioritisation and organisation
• Drive to lead relevant cross functional projects through to delivery
• High levels of resilience
