About the Role

Walnut Tree Health Centre in Milton Keynes has an exciting opportunity for a hardworking and enthusiastic emergency care practitioner (ECP) / paramedic to join our busy practice, to support the clinical team in delivering outstanding patient care. We are happy to consider applicants on a full and part-time basis.

The main responsibilities of the role include:
  • To urgently respond to referrals and provide assessment, diagnosis and treatment at first point of contact by attending to patients, according to patients’ needs either in the practice or patient homes;
  • To support, and continue the development of, an on-the-day emergency patient service in the practice;
  • To accurately triage and prioritise patients, including in both emergency situations and telephone triage, demonstrating the use of a variety of techniques to elicit the history of an event/illness, including past medical and drug history;
  • To evaluate clinical information from examination and history taking, and initiate appropriate treatment and/or referral;
  • To review the effectiveness of the treatment provided, making changes where necessary to improve patient outcomes;
  • To maintain accurate clinical records in an efficient manner.
The role will offer you the opportunity to build on your experience of working effectively within a multi-disciplinary, healthcare team, as you will work alongside fellow professionals within the practice in support of one another.

About the Candidate

If you are an experienced emergency care practitioner (ECP) / paramedic wanting a new challenge, we would love to hear from you. You will have the following skills and experience:
  • Be a registered nurse or paramedic, with current HCPC or NMC registration and have post-registration experience, ideally with some being in primary care;
  • Have completed ENP/ ECP Minor Injuries and Minor Illness course Level 6 and be a ALS/APLS provider;
  • Be able to effectively assess, plan, treat and refer patients;
  • Be able to evaluate patient care confidently;
  • Have experience of working to protocols and guidelines;
  • To exhibit excellent verbal and non-verbal communication skills;
  • Have the ability to make clear decisions with confidence and communicate these effectively;
  • Understanding of the need to work within the parameters of one's own training and capability, according to the NMC Code of Conduct / Health and Care Professions Council;
  • Experience of autonomous practice working and multi-professional team working;
  • Can demonstrate a broad and sound knowledge of complex and common conditions in primary care in both adults and children.

About Us

Walnut Tree Health Centre is a very friendly, busy GP Surgery based in Walnut Tree, Milton Keynes and serves a population of 13,500 patients with a mixed demographic. We are a training practice. We have a great relationship with our PCN and are committed to developing the services we can offer our patients. We value work life balance.

We are currently a team of 3 GP Partners and 2 salaried GPs. In addition to PCN roles we have our own very experienced multi-disciplinary team comprising:

  • 2 x prescribing nurse practitioners
  • Practice nursing team including chronic disease management, health screening and treatment room services
  • Prescribing pharmacist
  • A management and admin team providing comprehensive care and support
  • Variety of trainees including F2, ST1/2&3 and student nurse
